T’was the month B4 Christmas…and marketing wins.

Christmas on TV. Christmas on my Radio. Christmas ONLINE.

It t’was the month before Christmas, and all through my apartment—sugar, spice, and cinnamon fill the air—red and green place mats are on my kitchen table—wrapping paper and ribbon are strung out through my hallway—a mile long check list is hung on my refrigerator.

OKay…so, I am IN THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT!

This past week or so, I’ve managed to find time to put up my Christmas tree, do some shopping–wrap gifts, send out Christmas cards to family/friends, and listen to Christmas carols. Tis’ the season…

Do your purchasing habits alter during the holiday season? Do any of you pay close attention to your (or other’s) consumer behavior? I’ve noticed that my recent “holiday spirit” and “Christmas cheer” attitude have influenced me to consume products that I probably normally wouldn’t purchase. For example, I don’t really watch a lot of TV…as a Reporter, I get ENOUGH OF TV, and so I hardly ever sit down to watch a full episode of anything! Well…it’s cold outside, my Christmas decor in the living room is inviting, and my lit Christmas tree near the sofa have all lured me into the living room, right in front of the TV…to snuggle up and watch Lifetime Christmas stories.

Instead of ordering my Cinnamon Dulche Latte from Starbucks, like I always do…this week, one of the Starbuck’s attendants sold me on one of their featured Christmas drinks this season: Peppermint Mocha. Despite my love and product loyalty to the *Cinnamon Dulche Latte* I told myself to give the ol’ Christmas drink a shot…

And speaking of Christmas and how products are advertised and consumers are influenced—here’s an interesting article about how retailers are relying on social networking for Christmas advertising…

And, as if Black Friday wasn’t enough, I fully took advantage of CYBER MONDAY!! Which brings up another topic…as popular as Cyber Monday is becoming, there are still many folks out there that do not recognize the term, “Cyber Monday.” I know when I was talking to my mom about this last week and telling her about all the great deals, she was amazed. But then…some people are already referring to it as the *new* Black Friday.

Check out this interesting article I found…

  1. Hi Bridgette,

With the economy as it is, both brick and mortar and online retailers are hitting the nail on the head by creating extended reasons to shop this season. By offering specials more frequently, organizations have more opportunities to build relationships.

I am reading your post and wishing we could share a cup of cocoa together. But I guess a virtual cup will have to do!

  2. Bridgette,

In years past I have gone overboard with holiday shopping especially for our only child. And most of my shopping was done online too. I like the convenience of being able to compare products and prices, avoid the hassles of traffic, crowds, and bad weather, and shop from the comfort of my home office. The shopping experience is a bit addictive – can we say credit debt? Yikes.

This year I have tried to avoid shopping online because I find it too easy to lose track of how much I am spending. So my wife and I opted to go out to brick and mortar locations to shop. I don’t know if the crowds and inconvenience had anything to do with it, but I was better able to control my buying impulses.

But I have to tell you, I want to buy a netbook so bad it hurts. And Amazon knows it because I searched there. Now I am getting e-mails about the low, low prices. Damn those web analytics. I am having Cyber Monday withdrawals.

  3. I definitely know about CyberMonday. I didn’t shop black Friday because I didn’t want to stand in line and fight the crowds. Instead I shopped in my PJs on CyberMonday and took advantage of free shipping deals and no sales tax. It doesn’t get much better than that!
